Nagasaki overview - Places and attractions
Apart from the sites related to the A-bombing and the hills with viewpoints, Nagasaki has several other attractions and interesting neighbourhoods. Among them are Chinese, Japanese and Christian religious places, a (rather small) Chinatown, Western-style houses, entertainment and shopping streets, the Nakashima River with its bridges, and of course the port.

On the same hillside, stands the very unique Fukusai-ji Temple with a towering statue. The original temple, created in 1628, was destroyed in the A-bomb attack, this version was built in 1979. You find more information on Fukusai-ji Temple on the Japan Travel website.
A random Christian church in Nagasaki. There are quite a lot of Christian sites in the city.
The Shofuku-ji temple was under renovation in 2025.
There are many beautiful bridges over the Nakashima River, with the "Spectacles Bridge" (Meganebashi) being the most famous. Trams run along the lower end of the river which is near the Dutch Trading Post.
Site of the Former Dutch Trading Post on Dejima.
The Hamamachi and Shianbashi shopping and nightlife districts.
Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown is quite small compared to Yokohama's and Kobe's Chinatowns.
Higashiyamate is part of the former European Quarter of Nagasaki and you'll find the Dutch Slope (or Hollander Slope) and Western-style buildings in this area.
Nagasaki Koshibyo Confucius Shrine.
Nagasaki port including Seaside Park, Dejima Wharf, and Ohato Wharf.
The Coach Terminal in Nagasaki, near the JR Station and right next to my hotel. I took the bus to Fukuoka, as it costs a little less than half of the train fare.
