Hiroshima overview - Attractions and hikes

1. JR Station; 2. Atomic Bomb Dome; 3. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park; 4. Ferry to Itsukushima (Miyajima); 5. Central shopping district; 6. Nagarekawa (nightlife district); 7. Hiroshima Castle.

Mount Futaba (Futabasan)

Located near the JR Station, you can spot the hill from incoming trains with its silver stupa on top. It is an easy and short hike, but in untouched nature. The trail passes several torii gates and shrines, before reaching the top. You have a partial, but nice view of Hiroshima from here. Then, along the ridge through the forest, you can reach the stupa, known as the Peace Pagoda. Standing above a cemetery, you have a wider view of the city from here. You can also see the bay with some of the islands, including Itsukushima. More info & photos.

Hijiyama Park

At the eastern end of the Peace Boulevard, across the Tsurumi Bridge, stands a small hill known as Hijiyama offering a few attractions and viewpoints. ... text to come ... More info & photos.

Ogonzan (Mount Ogon)

The best view of Hiroshima city and its bay with the islands - including Itsukushima (Miyajima) - is, without any doubt, from the hill known as Ogonzan (Mount Ogon). It's relatively far from the city centre and there are no hiking trails, all the walk is along paved car roads, but it is still very worth the visit. (You could also take a taxi if you're lazy or short on time.) Either way, as far as I'm concerned, this should be among the top attractions of Hiroshima. More info & photos.
