Hiroshima viewpoints - Ogonzan (Mount Ogon)

The best view of Hiroshima city and its bay with the islands - including Itsukushima (Miyajima) - is, without any doubt, from the hill known as Ogonzan (Mount Ogon). It's relatively far from the city centre and there are no hiking trails, all the walk is along paved car roads, but it is still very worth the visit. (You could also take a taxi if you're lazy or short on time.) Either way, as far as I'm concerned, this should be among the top attractions of Hiroshima.

I started at Hijiyama Park, but it's a long way to the start of the climb. The route I took is not a recommendation, it is just one option through a confusing maize of suburban streets. But from the start of the climb there is only one way, except a steep foot path coming from the east. The main viewpoint offers a 360-degree panoramic panorama, the other nearby viewpoint is quite obstructed by vegetation.

Other hikes and viewpoints in Hiroshima: Mount Futaba (Futabasan) and Hijiyama Park.

I walked from Hijiyima park through outer suburbs, as documented by photos.
