Trujillo or Huanchaco - city or beach?
The centre of Trujillo is quite nice with lots of historic buildings, but many people prefer to stay in nearby Huanchaco, a beach town. The beach itself is not the most amazing but it is supposedly good for surfing and there is a more active night life. Huanchaco is also known for its ceviche and traditional reed boats (Caballito de Totora). There are regular public buses between the two places, and one of the main attractions, Chan Chan, is about half way on this road. I stayed in Trujillo, where I discovered a dish which I liked very much, called cabrito.
