Leymebamba and its museum of mummies
Leymebamba is a tiny town, or a bigger village, noted for its museum. It is a convenient stop before or after Chachapoyas and it can be used as a base to visit other attractions as well, such as the mausoleums of Revash or Kuélap. Following you find practical info about visiting Leymebamba and see photos of the museum.
Leymebamba is 74 km south of Chachapoyas and colectivos run regularly between the two. Coming from Cajamarcain, when you change colectivo in Celendín, you could buy your ticket only to Leymebamba, not Chachapoyas. If you arrive early, you could ask to be dropped off at the museum, visit it and then walk downhill a few kilometres to the centre. A shortcut, a pedestrian path, starts right after the museum, first leading through fields then a village and finally reaching Leymebamba. There are few accommodation options in town, and some of them can booked in advance.

There are more colectivos apart from these scheduled times, they virtually run 24 hours, but they are quite unpredictable and won`t stop if full.
Leymebamba main square. (The only square.)
The museum of Leymebamba is about 3 kilometres out of town, all uphill. The only transport option is some kind of taxi (car or threewheeler).
