  With its rooms and doors, the main pyramid at the Mayan ruins of Edzná looks different than any of the pyramids I have seen so far. The site itself is not very big, but really nice, and if you go early there are only a few people around. You can take a colectivo from the market in Campeche.

  Smaller than Mérida, Campeche is another city with a colourful and pretty historic centre, plus there is a long promenade along the waterfront, the Malecón, and several bastions. A great place to relax for a couple of days, and you can also visit from here the Mayan ruins of  Edzná .
