Choryang-dong - Chinatown and Texas Street near Busan Station

Most visitors pass through Busan Station and/or the International Ferry Port, which are located close to each other. The station is situated in Choryang-dong, a neighborhood nestled between the old center, Jung-gu, and the newer commercial district, Busanjin-gu. Across from the station lies a small Chinatown consisting of just a few streets. Interestingly, many signs are in Russian, suggesting that a significant number of Russians either visit or live in the area. Adjacent to Chinatown is Texas Street, lined with bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues.

The name Texas Street dates back to the mid-20th century and is thought to reflect the area's early association with American servicemen and sailors, particularly during and after the Korean War. At the time, Busan was an important hub for U.S. military operations and international trade, and the area around what is now Texas Street became a gathering spot for foreign visitors.

Another notable location in Choryang-dong is Choryang Ibagu-gil, which I didn’t have time to explore. This cultural walking street offers a fascinating blend of history and scenic views of the city. It highlights Busan’s early modern history and its connections to the port and foreign influences.
