Views of Guangzhou from the Canton Tower
The day after I walked to the Canton Tower, I visited it again. But this time I took the metro, although not all the way, but to a nearby station. The district I walked through had a retro feel, and a pagoda stood among bushes in a fenced off area. Being a Monday, there weren't too many people at the tower and it was easy to get a ticket quickly. There are different options at different prices; in my opinion it's worth to take the more expensive one which lets you to the top, open-air viewing platform - while in most places you can only admire the vistas through a glass, being outdoors is unique, plus pictures come up better. The other options are the glassed indoor observation deck, the open-air deck with limited visibility as there is a "bubble train" circuit around the rim of the building, and you can add a ride on the "bubble train" itself. The open-air viewing platform stands above this observation deck, and you get unobstracted views in all directions from 488 metres. Unfortunately the air was a bit hazy and I couldn't see as far as where I started my long walk the day before, nevertheless, the before and after sunset cityscapes were stunning. As in most similar places in China, you had to dispose your cigarette lighters upon entering, but you could chose another one from a box when leaving.
