Tokyo walks - Random photos
I explored Tokyo quite extensively the last time I visited in 2020, so I wasn't that keen to see every attraction. But I enjoyed walking around the areas I liked, and in fact I re-visited most places. The first 3 nights I stayed in Asakusa, so I started with that district, followed by a walk along a river branch to Akihabara and then Ueno. The next day I visited the Zojo-Ji temple and its Jizo statues, then passed by the Tokyo Tower on my way to Roppongi. From there, via Tokyo Midtown, I headed to Shimbashi and Ginza. In this area used to be one of the most unique buildings of Tokyo, the Nakagin Capsule Tower, but I knew it was demolished so I didn't look for it. The next day I moved to Shinjuku, walking all the way from Asakusa, passing the Tokyo Dome area and the outer moats of the imperial city. Shinjuku is still a vibrant, exciting place and I revisited Kabukicho, the Golden Gai, Omoide-yokocho on the first night. The following day I walked to Harajuku, an area that I didn't like the last time and still don't, but it's interesteng nevertheless. The iconic Harajuku station building was also demolished and replaced with a characterless glass building. I went to Shibuya from here, a shopping area that I don't like that much, but it is also interesting. That's where I had red salmon caviar for about GBP 5! On the way back to Shinjuku I went through Yoyogi Park, passing by the Meiji Shrine. Back in Shinjuku I had my first Japanese curry, and I was surprised how good it was! On my last day in Tokyo I walked from Jimbocho Book Town to the imperial gardens which were closed again, so I could just have a look at the moats and outer walls of the compound just as last time. From there, Tokyo Station is just a short stroll, where I took a Shinkansen to Kyoto.
