Baiyun Mountain hike and a hazy view of Guangzhou

You can get beautiful views of Guangzhou from natural viewpoints, not only Canton Tower, if you visit the Baiyun Mountain. It is an enclosed nature area where you have to buy a ticket for a modest price, but it seems you can enter with a car as there are asphalt roads that lead up, and you could also take a cable car. But it's also an easy walk and you don't have to enter from the main gate. Closer to a metro station (Shaheding) there is a small gate, and getting there you walk through an interesting, very busy wholesale market. Paved footpaths and steps lead to the top, and you get your first views shortly after entering. There are more views along the way, but the viewpoints around the cable car upper station offer the best vistas. It's a manicured park area, but you could carry on hiking to distant peaks. Again, it was quite hazy, even more so than on the day before, but you could still see the skyline of Guangzhou. On a clear day, it must be stunning. From here, you can walk back via the main gate, and there is a bus station as you come out (Yuntai Garden Bus Terminal). Ask for a bus that takes you to Xiaobei metro station, and from there you can get back to any part of Guangzhou.
