The Bedouin gardens of the Sinai mountains in autumn

The Bedouin gardens around St Catherine in South Sinai are Egypt's best kept secret. There are hundreds of them, although many now abandoned, dating back to the Byzantine era. But several are still looked after and provide accommodation for hikers. These photos were taken in October 2024, and as you can see they are stil quite green. Then, after loosing their foliage in the next months, the first sign of life returning comes as soon as January when the almond trees start flowering.
