Madain Saleh (Hegra) - A Nabataean wonder of the world

Madain Saleh, also known as Hegra, is an extensive archaeological site featuring Nabataean tombs carved into the rock. The most iconic, of course, is the one pictured above, but there are hundreds of others spread out over a large area. You could spend a week, or weeks, exploring them all - if it worked that way. Unfortunately, it doesn't. You have to take an organised tour and the sites visited are limited to 4-5 in a period of 2 hours. It is still a must, you can't visit Saudi Arabia without seeing at least the highlights of this true wonder of the world.

I'm not sure if it is true, but someone told me that in high season, that is in the winter months, there is a Hop-On-Hop-Off bus, so you could spend more time and see more sites. If that's the case, plan your visit accordingly!
