The Konark Sun Temple near Puri

Located about 35 kilometres from Puri, the Konark Sun Temple is monumental ancient structure, built in the shape of a chariot, complete with delicately carved wheels and galloping horses. It is also known for its erotic carvings, which, similarly to the Kajuraho erotic sculptures, are not published on this site. Last time I visited this site in 2000, we did it on bicycle; now I just watched the rural areas and the coastline from the bus.

There are other smaller but functioning temples in Konark.

The road between Konark and Puri runs along the coast for a while.
