Hike with river crossing - From Hampi to Anjanadri Hill, the birthplace of Lord Hanuman

From a religious perspective, Anjanadri Hill is the most important place around Hampi - it is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. A temple dedicated to Hanuman is found on the top, and it may get very crowded at times as Hindu pilgrims visit it in large numbers. The climb to the temple and the views from the top are very dramatic. Most people get to the base of Anjanadri Hill by different modes of motorised transports, but you could also walk there and back. This hike follows the river, then crosses it, before reaching Anjanadri Hill. You could take a rikshaw back to Hampi, or walk back via Hippie Island.

This hike starts exactly as the one to the Vijaya Vitthala Temple and the Stone Chariot, as explained in another post.

After the junction of the Shri Achyutaraaya Swamy Temple, you can turn north, back to the river. This is one of the spots where there maybe little boats to take you to the other side. If the water level is low, however, there will be no boats, but you can cross on foot. Ask locals about the exact way.

You can also head to the Purandara Daasara Mantapa, and cross the river here.

Either way you got on the other side, you have to aim for the big walled compound.

Over a hill, there is another water crossing, but here you have a little bridge.

From the other side, follow the little road until you reach the main road.

The main road with the view of the Anjanadri Hill.

You can't miss the start of the climb to the Hanuman Temple, as there are many little shops.

There is only one path, covered at parts.

Reaching the top.

Explore the hilltop next to the temple.

Back at the temple, explore this area for different views.

Return the same way you came up. You may stop at a cave next to the path.

From the bottom, you can take an auto rikshaw back to the Hampi river crossing, but may as well walk. In the latter case, you have to cross the river when you reach an ancient bridge.

Now you are on Hippie Island. There is only one road, so it's simple.

The start of the climb to the sunset viewpoints, as explained in the Hippie Island post.

Reaching the water crossing point at Hampi.

A few more steps, and you are back at the Virupaksha Temple in the centre of Hampi.
