Kolkata walk - Around Victoria Memorial and Park Street
The area south of Sudder Street is perhaps more elegant than the historic administrative centre to the north of it, and definitely so compared to the Sudder Street-New Market area. The highlights are the Victoria Memorial and the lively western stretch of Park Street. I only had a glimpse at the Victoria Memorial and instead walked all along Shakespearre Street and Park Street, before returning to Sudder Street.
Heading south along Chowringhee, passing the Indian Museum and Park Street subway stop, all the way to the Ho Chi Minh memorial.
The Ho Chi Minh memorial marks the start of Ho Chi Minh Street. The U.S. consulate stands here, and the street was named after the communist leader during the Vietnam War.
In the south end of the Maidan, a large park, you find, among other things, the statue of Indira Gandhi, the M.P. Birla Planetarium, St. Paul Cathedral, and the Victoria Memorial.
Walking along Shakespeare Street towards Park Circus.
Park Circus.
Walking along Park Street, starting from its outer end to the more lively and elegant western end.
Walk in Camac Street, now called Abanindranath Thakur, and Ho Chi Minh Street, the next day.
Heading back to Sudder Street via Mirza Ghalib Street.
The views from the hotel's rooftop.
