Khajuraho - Temples, and a town where there was nothing
Khajuraho is known for its temples and the erotic carvings some of these temples display. Google would consider it to be adult content and may place restrictions on this blog for it, so this type of photos are not featured. But the temples are outstanding regardless of the carvings. The Western Group is the main site, but there are other Hindu and Jain temples scattered around Khajuraho. In the past, when I first visited in 1991, only 4-5 brick buildings stood near the main group of temples, and apart from them only pretty hamlets of simple and small mud-brick houses were found in the area. Today Khajuraho is a town with many multi-story buildings that incorporates all these former hamlets. Long gone is the day when in Khajuraho's only 'bank' (a shack) they didn't have enough Indian rupees for 20 US dollars.
