Jodhpur - Mehrangarh Fort, Singhoria Hill, and Jaswant Thada

Mehrangarh Fort, Singhoria Hill with the Tekri Mata Mandir and ruins of the city wall, and the marble cenotaph Jaswant Thada can be visited in one go, as they stand near each other on the edge of Jodhpur. They all offer stunning views of the city and/or the fort. See route map and photos!

Central Jodhpur attractions and route map

Walk 1 (red): 1. Clock Tower, Sadar Market; 2. Gulab Sagar; 3. Stepwell: Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi; 4. Blue Wall (street art); 5. Temple; 6. Pachetia Hill, cafĂ© with view; 7. Padmasar Talab (natural pond). Walk 2 (orange): 1. Clock Tower, Sadar Market; 8. Top of the climb at Mehrangarh Fort entrance, viewpoint; 9. Inner fort entrance, fork; 10. Chamunda Mata Temple; 11. Back exit of fort; 12. Singhoria Hill; 13. Jaswant Thada.

Two walks are suggested, one covering the attractions in Jodhpur center, the other - this one - showing the attractions on the hilltops, Mehrangarh Fort, Singhoria Hill, and Jaswant Thada. The two walks could be combined in different ways in a long day, finishing with a sunset either from Pachetia Hill or the fort area.

The walk starts at the Clock Tower in Sadar Market (1), and leads increasingly uphill until it reaches the top of the climb at the entrance of Mehrangarh Fort, from where there are great views of the city (8). You could go three directions from here; in this post we start with the fort. After a checkpoint, you can enter through the outer wall of the fort, but there is another gate at a fork (9). Through this gate you can enter the inner fort, and follow the path all the way to the Chamunda Mata Temple in the south (10). You can also visit the museum in the main building. After returning to the fork (9), we leave the fort the same way we came in, but there is also a back exit (11) that leads to the northwestern parts of the old city. In this post, the next stop is Singhoria Hill (12), featuring a little temple, a section of the old city wall, and panoramic views. After descending, you have to walk along an asphalt road until you reach the entrance of Jaswant Thada (13), a white marble cenotaph in a garden. There are shortcuts back to the city through the maze of little alleys, but the best is to retrack the route to the viewpoint at Mehrangarh Fort entrance (8) for another look and descend to the center.
