Churches, synagogues and more - beyond Samarkand's Islamic heritage

Samarkand is famous for its magnificent Islamic heritage, but there are other historic, religious, and modern attractions. From lively markets, Soviet art and architecture, through modern neighbourhoods and malls, to churches and synagogues, you'll find a diverse range of places of interest. There is even a monument to Confucius in a Chinese themed park complete with a stone Chinese gate.

Among the churches there are Catholic, Armenian and Slavic Orthodox.
