Andijan (Andijon) city - First impressions of Uzbekistan

Located a short distance from Osh, in Kyrgyzstan, Andijan was my first stop in Uzbekistan. My first impression of the city, and through it of the country, was that Uzbekistan is much more developed and modern than Kyrgyzstan. The Westernization efforts are also obvious from the fact that they recently switched from Cyrillic alphabet to Latin. Also spelt as Andijon, the city is quite pleasant: there is beautiful old Islamic architecture, parks, modern avenues, and lively markets. On the outskirts, a hill in Babur park offers a view of the city and the surroundings. Most travellers pass through the city to more famous places, but Andijan does deserve a couple of days if you're not in a hurry.
