Celebrating 155 years - Festival in Naryn

I was lucky to happen to be in Naryn when a festival was held to celebrate the 155th anniversary of the city. It was for the local people by the local people, not a promotion for tourists. It was interesting to watch, even if one did not understand what was said. The yurts were prepared on the previous night, and now tables were set in them with goodies, and items of traditional life were displayed in and around them. The event started in the morning with traditionally dressed dancers performing in front of the leaders of the city and the general public. They must have come from different parts of the region, as their dress was different. Some of them were actually from neighbouring Tajikistan, as I learned, you could tell by their look that they were not Kyrgyz. There was a rotation of music, dances and telling poems. Later on life events were shown, such as harvest, blessing a newborn baby, a toddler taking his first steps. Then the leaders of the city gave awards to people. After a longer break, people gathered for the evening's entertainment. While the stage was set, kids of all ages played. The evening show started with traditional poems, then traditional and modern songs were sang by different performers. One of the songs was Modern Talking's "You're My Heart", but all the others were in Kyrgyz. The event finished at night with a firework display.
