Sunset in Yerevan from the Cascade and the Mother Armenia monument

One of the main attractions of Yerevan, and a popular place to hang out at sunset, is the Cascade. It consists of 5 hillside terraces with pools and fountains, connected by steps or an escalator inside the complex. In the park leading to its base, you'll find works of contemporary artists, among them Colombian Fernando Botero. (I don't know if it was a temporary display of Botero's sculptures, or if there are duplicates, but I've seen some of the same pieces in MedellĂn.) Above the Cascade on a brutalist Soviet-era terrace stands the 40th Anniversary of Soviet Armenia monument. Across a busy road on the hilltop lays a big park with the compulsory amusement park section, and the Mother Armenia monument. All these places - the park, the terrace and the Cascade - offer a stunning view on Yerevan and the snow-covered Ararat in the distance.
