Astana (Nur-Sultan) - Day 2

On my second day in Astana, I started my exploration in the neighbourhood I was staying in, little north of the new centre. An Ukrainian Orthodox church and a Soviet monument are the only noteworthy things in this suburban environment, so I headed to the old centre afterwards. While it is called "old", it is still quite new, it just refers to the fact that it was the first centre of the capital. Quite modern but not as much as the new centre, you find government buildings, museums, theatres and educational institutions in this area. The former presidential palace also stands here, now functioning as a museum dedicated to the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. The old centre is separated from the newer areas and its Central Park by a river, connected by a few bridges. After a short walk in Central Park I returned to the old part, finishing at Atatürk Park not far from my hotel.
