Mexican Food - Random photos
I should have made more photos of food as I tried other Mexican specialities too, but anyhow, this is the selection I have. This dish at the Mercado de Sabores in Puebla was my favourite: 4 tacos filled with chicken and covered with 4 mole sauces of different types. I like green mole the most and the black mole the least, but they are all quite interesting and tasty. None of them is spicy hot, they all have some sweetness and some of them are a bit sour as well plus has other strong flavours.
Fried grasshoppers with chilli are quite popular all across the regions of Mexico I visited and you find them at markets and food stalls on the street.
The "Smoke Alley" at the Oaxaca market is popular with tourists and locals alike. Meats and sausages are the main thing, served wish side dishes. I had 2 meats and an opened sausage with rice, beans, guacamole, tortillas and a Corona beer.
This is my favourite restaurant in Mexico City. This time I had a fondue-type dish consisting of melted cheese with meat, accompanied by tortillas and sauces. Most people believe Mexican food is very spicy hot, but that`s not the case: usually it`s not hot at all, but the sauces that everyone can add according to their own tastes are.
I have been to many countries where bananas are part of the usual diet, but it was in Papantla, Veracruz, where I saw red bananas for the first time.
Crispy Tacos Dorados in Papantla.
Mondongo is probably not for everyone, but as someone who developed his taste in Hungary, I loved it: it is a soup made from diced tripe. This bowl with the accompanying tacos and rice was bought at the market in Veracruz City.
From blue maize come blue tortillas, filled and folded different ways. The one I had had cheese and shredded chicken.
On my last day in Mexico City, in my favourite restaurant, I finally tried the famous Mexican soup, pozole, with grilled cactus as side dish.
It's not a typical Mexican drink, but there aren't many countries where V8 is available. And I love it!
