Niterói - Rio de Janeiro's sister city
Just across Guanabara Bay lies the city of Niterói, connected to Rio de Janeiro by ferries and a bridge. It also has several beautiful beaches and dramatic rocky peaks, but Niterói is best known for the view of Rio from the top of Parque da Cidade, and for its iconic Contemporary Art Museum resembling a UFO. Unfortunately Parque da Cidade was closed when I visited due to a forest fire, and I didn't have time to visit the city's southern beaches (Piratininga, Camboinhas, Itaipu and Itacoatiara), but nevertheless I managed to put a lot in one day. I started at the ferry terminal of Charitas and went to the beaches of Adam and Eve (Adão and Eva), then back to Charitas and walked all the way to Praça Arariboia, the other ferry terminal. There are several beaches along the way, namely Charitas, São Francisco, Icaraí and Boa Viagem.
