Views of Mt Fuji from Shizuoka

Heading to Kawaguchiko, I stopped in Shizuoka Prefecture for a day to catch the views of Mt Fuji (Fuji-san) from different points. From Shizuoka Station you can take a bus or ferry to the Miho Peninsula, famous for its beach Miho-no-Matsubara. The view of Mt Fuji dominates the view over the beach. You can walk up to and around the northern tip of the penninsula, getting different variations of scenes of the main subject. There are also sport facilities, museums, onsen and a range of tourist facilities. Fortunately, at the time of my visit the beach was mostly empty. It was a sunny but very windy day, as you can see on some of the later photos made in Shizuoka harbour and Fuji city. From Shin-Fuji Station, in Fuji city, you can take a bus to Kawaguchiko. The one way fare is ¥2470, but for ¥2500 you can buy a 2-day pass that, apart from taking you to Kawaguchiko, is good for several of the sightseeing buses there. You can get the pass in the Tourist Information Centre at the station.
