Hikari - A Taste of the Shinkansen
Bus tickets were sold out for a few days ahead, so I had no choice but to use the Shinkansen. Costing two-three times more than the long distant coaches, I could have lived with not taking it. I assumed it's similar to the Eurostar fast train, and, as it turned out, indeed is. A unique feature, however, was the smoking room. Compared to a long bus journey, the travel from Kyoto to Shizuoka was a bliss. The highest speed my GPS recorded was 284 km/h, but usually it was between 260-280. After Nagoya my destination, Mt Fuji, became visible.
