The Choeung Ek Killing Field
One of some two hundred killing fields, Choeung Ek was where prisoners of the Tuol Sleng Security Prison 21, and others, were sent to be murdered. Up to 3 million people died during the Khmer Rouge reign of terror, tortured to death, executed, or due to starvation and lack of medical care. Every family in Cambodia was affected, and despite claims of "justice found for the Cambodian people", the perpetrators, apart from a handful of showcases, have never been punished. Bizarrely, several Western countries, Thailand and even China, officially recognised and supported the Khmer Rouge government up until 1993. I cannot comprehend how the Cambodian people can come to terms with the fact that mass murderers still live among them.
