A Buddhist amusement park

One of the attractions near Vientiane is the Buddha Park -- a small area where many ferro-cement statues of the Buddhist mythology are packed. They may look ancient, but a closer look will reveal that they were done recently. It is a bizarre site, with demons, demigods and their associates showing off their antics. There is a pumpkin-shaped building that you can enter and climb to its top - but make sure to visit the torture chambers of the underworld. Only in Sri Lanka I have seen such a grotesque display of religious kitsch. Worth a visit, but don't take it seriously!
