Nitmiluk Gorge

South of Darwin, on the way to the Red Centre, you go through a settlement (town?) called Katherine. A stunning site is located nearby, the Nitmiluk Gorge. You can rent canoes and paddle upstream the slow river that flows between steep rock walls; at places you have to get out and drag the canoe over cascades. There are crocodiles in the water, but the harmless variety. Back in the camp, the kangaroos in the camp are quite agressive. While we were waiting for our dinner, a cloud of fruit bats flew by - they just kept coming and coming for some half an hour, they literally darkened the sky.
