Kuala Lumpur and Singapore

From Bagkok we took a long bus journey to Kuala Lumpur where first we went down to the sea at Port Dickson. We found a deserted stretch of beach where we camped for a night, then we went back to KL. We carried on to Singapore, which is a moder, sterile city, but there was an all-you-can-eat breakfast in the hostel and we found out you can bargain even in shopping malls. We each bought a camera which then we wanted to sell in India, to make a few extra bucks. It was the time of the first Gulf War, and we found a very cheap ticket from Bombay to Amsterdam - but first we had to get there. The Hungarian embassy in Bangkok helped us in this; reluctantly they gave us a bit of cash, God bless them. Probably they are not that helpful anymore - in 1991 not many Hungarians travelled yet.
