Coober Pedy - a bizarre underground town

Coober Pedy is an opal mining town in the desert in South Australia, some 850 kms north of Adelaide. This time my son and I did the touristy things, visited some underground attractions, a church, museum and so on. We actually stayed underground in a hostel carved in the rock. When I first time visited Coober Pedy, in 1993, we met some Hungarian minders by accident who invited us to one of the working mines where they used explosives and then to the pub where they told us many interesting stories. Coober Pedy, indeed, is one of the last outlaw places in the world!
