Kumbh Mela 2001, Allahabad
Happening only once every 12 years, the Kumbh Mela is a Hindu festival of massive proportions. In 2001, 70 million pilgrims attended the 55 days long event including more than 40 million on the busiest single day. (BBC) During the festival it is the biggest city (even if only tent city) on the planet visible from space, on a land that otherwise is empty. The main event is when the Naga Sadus lead the crowd for the bath in the holy river.
